Bellator 183 Results: Roy Nelson defeats Javy Ayala via decision

Former UFC heavyweight standout Roy Nelson made his Bellator debut tonight against Javy Ayala on the main card of Bellator 183.

Round one begins and Ayala lands a high kick early. Nelson is staying patient and looking for an opening to land his big overhand right. Ayala is very active early on here. Nelson shoots in and scores a big takedown against the fence. Roy is working from half guard now. Nelson transitions to full mount and begins landing some shots. Ayala scrambles and is able to get back to his feet. Ayala lands some big knees and punches to close out an entertaining opening round.

Round two begins and Ayala rushes in with some punches. He lands a pair of low kicks. Nelson shoots in and is able to score another takedown. He presses Ayala up against the fence and lands some good ground and pound to the body of Javy. Ayala attempts to scramble but ends up giving up his back. Nelson begins working for a submission attempt. Ayala once again scrambles and this time is able to get back up to his feet. Javy with some big punches now. He switches to kicks but that allows Nelson to get him back down to the canvas. Roy begins working some nasty elbows to the mid section of Ayala. Round two comes to an end.

Round three begins and once again Ayala charges forward with punches. Nelson returns fire and lands a pair of bombs. He shoots in and gets Ayala back down to the canvas. Nelson transitions to side control but Ayala is attempting to wall walk and get back to his feet. Nelson won’t allow Ayala back up and proceeds to land some viscous knees to his rib cage. Nelson postures up and begins raining down some hard punches to the face of Javy. The horn sounds to put an end to the fight. Good show from both men.
