Ronda Rousey to get immediate title shot upon return to the Octagon

By Russell Ess - July 13, 2016

The UFC women’s bantamweight title has been playing hot potato ever since the dominant women’s champion, Ronda Rousey was knocked from the top by Holly Holm’s head kick at UFC 193.

In Holm’s first defense, she was submitted by Miesha Tate in the fifth round at UFC 196.

Tate also failed to defend the title in her fight over the weekend as Amanda Nunes stunned “Cupcake” with a treacherous offense and ended Tate’s tenure as the champion at UFC 200.

In the FS1 post-fight show, UFC President Dana White stated that Rousey will be able to fight Nunes next, if she chooses to do so.

“Ronda’s going to make that decision,” White said (transcribed by FOX Sports). “I would like to see her fight this year, but it could be early next year, too.

“Whoever the champion is at the time is who Ronda will fight.”

While Ronda’s return is unknown, White also mentioned that Holly Holm could also be another title contender if she finds success in her next fight.

“If Ronda comes back, Ronda will get the shot. We’ll see what happens with Holly Holm in her next fight, she’s fighting on FOX. It’s all good stuff,” White said.
