Rousey came back as the end of 2016, taking a year off from fighting after losing for the first time in her professional mixed martial arts career in 2015 against Holly Holm. The time off seemingly did not help Rousey in her comeback as she was devastated by Nunes in the first round of their title fight on December 30.

Rousey’s first social media post since the second loss of her pro MMA career was a quote from J K Rowling that said, “And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

Fans poured in giving their support to the former champion as well as a rival of Rousey’s that may have surprised many fans.

Cris Cyborg commented on Rousey’s post saying, “@rondarousey I was sad to see the loss of the sports star, but you have so much ahead of you and blessed with the financial security to pursue all your passions. You opened the door for many promotion and grew into a sport icon. Enjoy the next chapter of life and know you’ve got amazing opportunities to continue changing the world. #rowdyrevolution.”
