Jon Jones reacts to news of Israel Adesanya fighting Jan Blachowicz for UFC light heavyweight title

UFC legend Jon Jones has reacted to the news that Israel Adesanya will be moving up to light heavyweight to challenge Jan Blachowicz. Following UFC Vegas 12, Dana White had announced that Adesanya would be moving up in weight to take on Blachowicz in 2021 and attempt to become a two-division champion. Adesanya is already the UFC’s middleweight champion and he will be looking to join the exclusive club of two-weight champs in UFC history. Of course, the timing here is interesting as Adesanya announced his move up in weight only after Jones left the 205lbs division.

Newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz was clearly watching tonight’s UFC Vegas 13 headliner between Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira. Blachowicz most previous loss had comes at the hands of Santos back in February of 2019, so it was no surprise he tuned in to catch the scrap.

Tonight’s UFC Vegas 13 event was headlined by a key light heavyweight bout featuring former division title challengers Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira. Santos (21-8 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since UFC 239 in July of 2019, where he suffered a split-decision setback in his effort to dethrone Jon Jones of the promotions light heavyweight title. Prior to the setback, which left ‘Marreta’ needing knee surgery, the Brazilian had strung together a four-fight winning streak. During that impressive run Thiago Santos had picked up a TKO victory over reigning light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.

UFC welterweight Demian Maia has responded to a recent callout from fellow veteran Diego Sanchez, saying that he accepts the matchup with him. Maia and Sanchez are two of the longest-tenured fighters in the UFC and both don’t have many fights left in their careers, so they have to make them count. Maia has indicated recently that his next fight is likely going to be his last after a 14-year UFC career that began in 2007. As for Sanchez, he’s heading into his 16th year with the world’s leading MMA promotion. For comparison, Maia turned 43 years old on Friday while Sanchez is 38.

Alexander Hernandez believes he is now on version 2.0 as a fighter. At UFC Vegas 12 on Halloween night, Hernandez returned to the win column with a first-round TKO win over Chris Gruetzemacher. Darren Till will not be fighting Jack Hermansson in the UFC main event on December 5 as originally planned. Shortly after Till lost to Robert Whittaker it was announced he would be taking on Hermansson in December barring his knee was healed. Now, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, the Englishman has been forced out of the fight with an injury. However, rising contender, Kevin Holland has agreed to step up on short notice to fight Hermansson.
