In an interview with Yahoo Sports, former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren (12-0 MMA) announced that he will fight for ONE FC gold in May.

“Funky” went on to say that he will face the winner of ONE FC’s inaugural welterweight world title bout which features Brock Larson taking on Nobutatsu Suzuki.

The Larson vs. Suzuki title fight is the featured bout for the “ONE FC: War of Nations” event, which airs live from Stadium Negara in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia on March 14.

The proposed May title fight will mark Askren’s first bout with Asia’s largest MMA promotion, ONE FC.

ONE FC signed Ben Askren to a six-fight deal that spans over two years. “Funky” will earn $50,000 guaranteed just for showing up to his first bout this May, with another $50,000 in bonus pay should he emerge victorious.

“Funky’s” contract also includes an incentive that specifies his earnings will increase with each subsequent bout, should he continue getting his hand raised.
