VIDEO | Lorenzo Fertitta’s son delivers crushing hit for Notre Dame Fighting Irish

At BJPenn.com, we don’t generally cover football – unless we’re talking about football players making the jump to mixed martial arts, or ex-NFL players taking on MMA legends. Today, however, we’re making an exception for a young man named Nicco Fertitta.

Fertitta, as his surname suggests, is the son of former UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta. He’s also a safety for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. During a Saturday afternoon game against the USC Trojans, the young Fertitta (number 28) landed a savage hit on USC’s Ced Ware (also number 28).

The young Fertitta, of course, can no longer call himself an heir to the UFC throne, as the company was sold for a whopping $4.2 billion earlier this year. With this sale, Lorenzo and his brother Frank sold their shares of the company, walking away with roughly $1 billion each as a result – a massive bump from the $2 million they bought the company for back in the year 2000.

What do you think of this controversial hit from Nicco Fertitta? Are you surprised he’s competing on the football field rather than in the cage? Sound off, PENN Nation!
