Former UFC fighter Lavar Johnson made headlines several months ago when it was revealed that he brutally assaulted his girlfriend. Johnson allegedly slammed the woman’s head into the wall and ground before landing a barrage of knees and fists.

During a court appearance in Fresno County, Johnson admitted to the incident, and despite friends testifying on Johnson’s behalf, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison according to ABC30.

Judge Glenda Allen-Hill explained:

“It does appear there were times when Mr. Johnson could have stopped this offense,” Judge Glenda Allen-Hill told the court. “That he could have not inflicted the amount of damage that he inflicted on his victim, but he did not.”

Johnson’s last MMA fight was under the Bellator MMA banner in 2014 when he lost via submission to Cheick Kongo. The loss made it 2 straight for Johnson, who had won just 1 in his last 6.
