Spike to air an hour-long tribute special for Kimbo Slice

By Chris Taylor - June 12, 2016

The mixed martial arts community was left in shock Monday evening when news broke that MMA icon Kimbo Slice had suddenly passed away at the tender age of 42.

Today it was announced that SPIKE TV, the network who would have broadcasted his next fight, will be showing an hour-long “Kimbo” special on June 24 at 7:00pm EST. The “Kimbo Slice” tribute will lead into that night’s Bellator 157 “Dynamite 2” event in Arizona.

Slice was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with a liver mass and congestive heart failure last weekend. He passed away on Monday June 6.

Kimbo was one of mixed martial arts most well known and popular fighters.

Slice went 3-1 under the ELITE XC banner and set record numbers with the now defunct promotion.

Kimbo then joined the UFC as a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter Season 10. He would go 1-1 inside the octagon.

After his release from Zuffa, Slice signed with Bellator where he went 2-0 scoring wins over Ken Shamrock and Dada 5000. Slice’s bout with Harris was eventually overturned to a no-contest after a positive test for performance enhancing drugs.
