Two of Russia’s most famous athletes linked up last night in San Jose, California.

Undefeated UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov (25-0 MMA) was in attendance at Saturday night’s Washington Capitals vs. San Jose Sharks NHL hockey game to watch and support fellow countrymen Alexander Ovechkin.

Since entering the National Hockey League in 2005, “Ovi” has proven to be the NHL’s most prolific goal scorer, recording a staggering seven 50+ goal seasons.

Ovechkin currently sits tied for the league lead in goals with Winnipeg Jets sniper Patrick Laine, both men have tallied forty goals thus far this season.

Although he didn’t record any points in last night’s game versus the Sharks, Ovechkin’s Capitals still picked up a 2-0 victory moving the squad past the Pittsburgh Penguins and into first place in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division.

Following the big win, “Ovi” got together with Nurmagomedov and presented the UFC’s top lightweight with a jersey.

Khabib Nurmagomedov will compete for the UFC’s undisputed UFC lightweight title at next month’s UFC 223 event in Brooklyn when he takes on current UFC interim lightweight title holder Tony Ferguson.

BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor broke the news back on January 16 that once the first strike is thrown between Khabib and Tony at UFC 223, Conor McGregor will no longer be the UFC’s lightweight champion.

Tony Ferguson is currently riding an impressive ten-fight win streak, his latest being a third-round submission victory over Kevin Lee at UFC 216 which captured “El Cucuy” the promotions interim lightweight strap.

Ferguson’s most recent loss came way back at UFC on FOX 3 in May of 2012 when he was outpointed by Michael Johnson.

Meanwhile, Khabib Nurmagomedov has gone a perfect 25-0 in his mixed martial arts career, his latest victory coming over Edson Barboza at December’s UFC 219 event in Las Vegas.

Prior to defeating Barboza in Sin City, “The Eagle” mauled the aforementioned Michael Johnson at UFC 205 in New York.

Who do you think will emerge victorious when “The Eagle” and “El Cucuy” sqaure off at UFC 223? Soun off PENN Nation!
