UFC President Dana White believes that it’s time to book Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic. The UFC Heavyweight Title picture is up in the air. Francis Ngannou is the current champion but there are some question marks about his future. He underwent successful knee surgery, so he will be out of action for a while. On top of that, he is in the midst of a contract dispute with the UFC.

Aspinall competed last weekend at UFC London against Alexander Volkov. The 28-year-old defeated his Russian counterpart via first-round submission. The two champions have gone back and forth over the past few years. ‘The Last Stylebender’ intended to eventually move up to challenge ‘Bones’ for a 205-pound grudge match. However, the proposed superfight has been postponed as a result of Jones’ impending move to the heavyweight division.

Jon Jones has taken to Twitter to say his story is far from over and he is preparing to make a heavyweight run. Jones, (26-1 MMA) normally competes in the light heavyweight division of the UFC and has lost only once during his run. That loss came during a matchup with Matt Hamill (12-8 MMA) back in December of 2009 and was by disqualification due to elbow strikes.

Jon Jones was caught headbutting a police car during his arrest in Las Vegas back in September. On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal obtained police bodycam footage of Jones’ arrest where he headbutted a police car (at the 3:09 mark) and reportedly left a “medium-size dent” and chipped the paint. During the arrest, Jones is heard calling one of the officers a “nerd” and asked “A black man can’t drink?” as he accused the officers of racial profiling.

With Francis Ngannou out of action for the foreseeable future, due to his uncertain contract status as well as ongoing injury problems, the UFC needs to start planning ahead for the heavyweight division. Some believe that means a new interim champion needs to be crowned and if that’s going to happen, the two biggest names available are Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones.
