Greg Jackson: Powerlifting is a problem for Jon Jones

April 26, 2016 9:25 am by Evan Bell

In the main event of UFC 197, Jon Jones defeated Ovince Saint Preux to claim the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. While Jones seemed extremely gun-shy throughout the fight, he explained post-fight that the late change of opponents threw him off, and he would look better when he fought Daniel Cormier.

While Jones stated that he felt like he could go another 5 rounds after the fight, corner-cam audio captured his head coach, Greg Jackson, criticizing Jones’ power-lifting regimen after round 5.

MMAJunkie has the transcription:

Greg Jackson: That’s our fight

Izzy Martinez (Jones wrestling coach): He did all right coach.

Greg Jackson: Powerlifting’s a problem. He gasses. I only want to do an I-told-you-so dance right now.
