Conor McGregor coach bashes ‘dirtbag’ Floyd Mayweather, says boxer ‘beat up his girlfriends’

By Tom Taylor - April 13, 2017

To say there is a little animosity between the camps of UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather would be an understatement. As the possibility of a sport-transcending boxing mega-fight between the two superstars continues to grow, instances of one side trashing the other are becoming more and more common.

The latest bit of heat in this ongoing Team McGregor vs. Team Mayweather war of words comes from McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh, who spoke on the potential showdown during a recent Q&A in sunny Australia.

“I do think Floyd Mayweather is pretty much a dirtbag,” Kavanagh said (via Complex.com). “He’s beat up his girlfriends. I’ve watched [clips from Mayweather’s boxing gym] The Dog House. He just strikes me as a real bully-type character. He makes these guys fight each other endless rounds until one is badly hurt. He’s just not a good individual.”

Kavanagh went on to explain that, while he’s not a fan of Mayweather’s personality, he respects his skills, and admires McGregor’s desire to fight him.

“I’m a fan of his skills, but as a human being, the way he runs his gym, the way he carries himself — I mean, it is a little bit of an exchange of styles like that, so we’ll see what happens,” Kavanagh continued. “[McGregor] is already pretty much a legend in Ireland folklore at this stage. But to do that [Mayweather fight], what can I do except tip my hat to him that he’s embracing this challenge? He wants to fight one of the best boxers of all time.”

As of now, this headline-dominating showdown is still far from confirmed. That said, there is increasing reason to believe it will actually happen, and if it does, it will probably go down as the biggest fight of all time.
