According to a report from Poland’s Sport.pl, the next fight of Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s incredible reign as UFC strawweight champion will occur at UFC 211, on May 13 in Dallas, Texas. This challenge will be provided by streaking Brazilian contender Jessica Andrade.
When we last saw Jedrzejczyk in action, she defeated fellow Polish striker Karolina Kowalkiewicz in the first of three title fights on November’s UFC 205 lineup. This win marked her fourth consecutive defense of the UFC strawweight title. She proceeded this fourth defense with decision wins over Claudia Gadelha and Valerie Letourneau, a bloody TKO defeat of Jessica Penne, and a second-round bludgeoning of Carla Esparza, which earned her the divisional crown. The strawweight queen currently owns a flawless pro record of 13-0.
When we last saw Andrade in the cage, she defeated former Invicta strawweight champ Angela Hill by unanimous decision in one of the best fights in the history of the weight class. With this win, which UFC President Dana White confirmed had earned her a strawweight title shot, she extended her current win-streak to 3. The two other wins of this streak saw her defeat Joanne Calderwood by submission and Jessica Penne by TKO. Her overall record stands at 16-5 overall.
UFC 211 will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between reigning champ Stipe Miocic, and former champion Junior Dos Santos, who is the last man he lost to. Given that this fight will fill the headlining spot, we can assume this newly announced Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Andrade fight will fill the co-main event spot.
The card will also feature a heavyweight fight between former champ Fabricio Werdum and Ben Rothwell. At the moment, no other fights have been confirmed for this already anticipated May 13 card, though we can expect that to change over the coming weeks.
Do you think Joanna Jedrzejczyk can thwart Jessica Andrade, or will the strawweight title change hands? Sound off, PENN Nation!
