Holly Holm wants to hold two UFC belts at the same time

By Tom Taylor - January 11, 2017

In November of 2015, Holly Holm shocked the world by shutting off Ronda Rousey with a second round kick to the head. With this defeat of the seemingly unbeatable Rousey, Holm claimed the UFC women’s bantamweight belt, becoming just the second woman in promotional history to wear it.

Unfortunately for Holm and her army of fans, she was not able to hang onto the belt for long. In her first defense, which occurred in March of 2016, she surrendered an early lead to be put to sleep by a fifth-round rear-naked choke dealt by the now retired Miesha Tate. Just like that, her reign as UFC women’s bantamweight queen had come to an end.

From there, things got even worse from Holm, as she closed out the year 2016 by giving up a decision to Kyrgyzstani striker Valentina Shevchenko.  In less than a year she’d tumbled from the mountaintop to the lows of fringe contendership.

In early 2017, however, Holm will have the chance to bounce back in the biggest way possible. Despite her two-fight losing-streak, she’s been pencilled in for a UFC 208 bout with Germaine de Randamie, which will determine the first-ever UFC women’s featherweight champion.

Given that Holm held the bantamweight belt in the past, her winning this new belt will put her in the elite company of BJ Penn, Randy Couture and Conor McGregor as one of just four fighters to win titles in two weight classes. Yet Holm has her eyes on an even longer chapter of the history book.

If she’s able to win the featherweight title, she’d then be interested in fighting for the bantamweight title again, in an effort to hold two UFC titles at the same time. Only McGregor has accomplished this feat thus far.

Holm touched on this desire in an interview with Hot 97.

“In a perfect world if I were to write out what my dreams would be, I wanna hold both titles at the same time,” she said. “Why not? I mean I had [the 135lb] belt at one point. It was taken from me fair and square. I think anybody in their right mind wouldn’t want to be gone for good. I wanna be able to fight for it.”
