Back in the co-main event of UFC 196, Holly Holm looked to defend her UFC women’s bantamweight championship against Miesha Tate. The fight was Holm’s first title defense. Unfortunately for ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ Tate was able to pull off the late-fight upset in the 5th round, and defeat Holm via rear naked choke in the 5th round.

Ahead of Holm’s ‘UFC Chicago’ fight against Valentina Shevchenko Saturday night, the former champ recalled the moment before she was choked out. MMAFighting has the quotes:

“I can get out, I can get out, I can get out,” Holm said while recalling her thoughts during the bout’s final seconds. “And then I woke up to the roaring of the crowd. I saw the crowd and I was like, ‘ugh.’”

“I didn’t think, ‘I’m gonna go out, I’m not gonna tap,’” Holm added. “I really was thinking, ‘You know what? I can get out of this.’”
