Chris Taylor - November 19, 2017

UFC officials hope to have middleweight champ Georges St-Pierre return to action at UFC 221 this February in Perth, Australia. “Listen, bottom line is that we want to have Robbie (Whittaker) fight in Perth,” David Shaw, UFC Vice President of international content said at the UFC Fight Night 121 post-fight press conference via Forbes. “The stars are sort of aligning for that event, having a pay-per-view there. First time in Western Australia, which is meaningful to us. We want to blow it out of the water and make it a very significant event and make a real impact, not only for Western Australians but for Australian fans all over the country.”

Georges St-Pierre Suffers From 'Some of the Worst Anxiety' Brian Stann Has Seen

Justin Golightly - November 17, 2017

With as crazy as the MMA world has been lately, it’s almost easy to start to forget the embarrassment of riches that UFC 217 gave us. Perched atop the hugely successful card, Georges St-Pierre made his return to the Octagon for the first time in four years and was able to take the UFC middleweight title from Michael Bisping. In a recent episode of Jon Anik and Kenny Florian’s podcast, UFC veteran and former commentator Brian Stann talked about what an achievement St-Pierre pulled off, especially with how severe his anxiety gets before fights. “That’s a tremendous layoff. There is a huge difference — I don’t care what kind of shape you get into in the gym, in training camp. I don’t care if you measure everything, your resting heart rate, I don’t care — it’s all different when you’re actually in that Octagon in fight night. The bright lights, the anxiety, the nerves — GSP, he suffers from some of the worst anxiety I’ve ever seen in this sport, which makes what he did even more special. I thought he was fantastic, I thought he was technically very good. He did obviously slow down, but it was expected. It looked like Michael Bisping was taking over that fight, but GSP found a way to do it. It’s not like he did anything that was completely different from what we’ve seen before in his career, but the fact that he was able to come and fight at that level, after 4 years on the bench is absolutely outstanding to me.”

Tom Taylor - November 14, 2017

With the actioned packed UFC 217 and UFC Norfolk cards now in the rear-view, the UFC has updated its official rankings. Unsurprisingly, these rankings have experienced some tectonic shifts in the wake of these cards – perhaps none as notable as Georges St-Pierre’s blasting by Conor McGregor on the pound-for-pound list. Here’s how the rankings look as of Monday.

Justin Golightly - November 11, 2017

There’s no secret that Tyron Woodley wanted the winner between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre’s fight at UFC 217. Now that St-Pierre made his successful return and captured the UFC middleweight title, Woodley has stepped into overdrive to try and make this superfight happen. On his new show with TMZ Executive Producer Evan Roseblum, Woodley talked to the man face-to-face to get the biggest fight of his career. “Now you’ve had your warm-up fight, you’ve beat up [Michael] Bisping. I think it’s time to solidify. You’re the greatest welterweight of all time. That’s my goal to be the greatest welterweight of all time. Let’s get it in. Forget the contract, you were the welterweight king at one point. Anything that’s gonna’ sell, the UFC’s gonna’ do. I’ll come up to middleweight, we can do that fight there. Both of us don’t have to get in the sauna’s much. Let’s get it in. Robert Whittaker or Tyron Woodley? Just think about it. Legacy wise for me? There’s not a fight I want more.”

Georges St-Pierre describes what he 'hates' and finds 'unbearable' about fighting professionally

Russell Ess - November 10, 2017

Georges St-Pierre’s return to the Octagon over the weekend at UFC 217 was a success even after being away from competition for nearly four years. “Rush” stepped up a weight class to compete at 185 pounds for the first time in his professional MMA career and became the fourth fighter in history to become a UFC champion in two different weight classes by putting Michael Bisping to sleep with a rear-naked choke in the third round. Following the fight, St-Pierre said on social media that winning at UFC 217 was the best night of his career. Despite all the glory, in speaking on a special edition of The MMA Hour on Thursday, GSP opened up on fighting professionally and revealed that there are times where he truly hates his job.

Early estimates for UFC 217 PPV buys are high, but not 'Notoriously' high

Russell Ess - November 10, 2017

UFC 217 was a stacked pay-per-view card with three UFC title fights. For those that didn’t tune in to the action, it was a thrilling card where new champions were crowned in each title fight. The main event of the evening saw the return of former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre. With previously last competing in 2013, GSP returned to the Octagon up a weight class and challenged Michael Bisping for his middleweight title. “Rush” ended up securing the win in the third round by choking Bisping unconscious after dropping him with a punch and some ground and pound. With the win, St-Pierre became the fourth fighter in history to become a two-weight UFC world champion.

John Danaher Reveals Georges St-Pierre's Private Struggle Up to Middleweight

Justin Golightly - November 10, 2017

After four long years, Georges St-Pierre decided to come back to the UFC and challenge himself once again. He didn’t step back into the security blanket of his old division, now overrun with a new breed of challengers, instead he decided to move up to middleweight. It was a shift that was talked about his entire career, but St-Pierre always said such a big jump would take time, something GSP didn’t have with a revolving door of challengers. The experiment was a success. St-Pierre choked out Michael Bisping to become the new UFC middleweight champion, but the fight was just half of the battle according to coach John Danaher. “Experiment with mixed results: The victory by welterweight Georges St-Pierre at middleweight to gain a new world title was a bold experiment with a truly great result, but was not without its problems. The fundamental problem was always going to be size. Mr. St-Pierre always walked into the Octagon around 189 pounds on fight night throughout his career. This made him a very averaged sized Welterweight. In order to move up to middleweight, Mr. St-Pierre took on a nutritional program designed to facilitate weight gain and hold weight during the rigors of a full fight camp. The result was a disaster. Two weeks into camp he developed severe stomach pains and vomiting. Initially it was suspected that he had an illness, but all tests came back negative.”

Last weekend, in the main event of the absolutely stacked UFC 217 card, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre returned to the Octagon after a four year hiatus. Though St-Pierre’s glory days occurred at welterweight, this return to action occurred at middleweight, where he battled reigning middleweight champion Michael Bisping for the divisional crown. VIDEO | Freddie Roach Wants Georges St-Pierre to Go Back Down to Welterweight

Justin Golightly - November 7, 2017

There’s no rest when it comes to being a champion, especially one who comes back after four years and puts on a performance like Georges St-Pierre did at UFC 217. Everyone wants to know what is next, especially fighters like Robert Whittaker and Tyron Woodley. Even though the Powers That Be have said a defense against Whittaker is next, Freddie Roach thinks St-Pierre’s future fights should be contested at lower weights even after successful middleweight experiment. “I was a little concerned [with Georges St-Pierre’s stamina]. It was obviously a fast-paced fight, and he did box very well in the first round, and I was very happy with it. [Michael] Bisping is a very tough opponent. He came back in the second round. I think moving up in the weight division, I am not sure that’s his best weight division or if we will fight there again. We will see where it goes. The weight got to him. He’s not used to carrying that much weight, and it fatigued him quicker than usual. Again, we will work it all out and get together with the whole team and discuss what the next best move is for Georges.”

Robert Whittaker breaks down the weakness he saw in Georges St-Pierre's UFC 217 performance

Tom Taylor - November 7, 2017

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC 217, the world watched on as former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre returned from a four-year hiatus to defeat Michael Bisping and win the UFC middleweight belt. Of all the people watching on as St-Pierre made this triumphant return, none had quite the same interest as UFC interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker – the man widely expected to be St-Pierre’s next opponent. While the ever-classy Whittaker was impressed with St-Pierre’s win, he did see some holes in the Canadian’s game – mainly his speed.

Kenny Florian explains why Georges St-Pierre would easily beat Conor McGregor

Tom Taylor - November 7, 2017

Now that Georges St-Pierre owns the UFC middleweight title, many fans are wondering what’s next for him. While UFC President Dana White has assured it’ll be a title-unifying showdown with interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, that’s certainly not the Canadian’s only option. One of the more compelling choices on St-Pierre’s menu is UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who he could meet at welterweight. In the eyes of former fighter Kenny Florian, however, this probably wouldn’t be a very competitive contest.

UFC President Dana White confirms Georges St-Pierre's next opponent

Tom Taylor - November 5, 2017

Though UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley is keen on a move to middleweight to battle new middleweight king Georges St-Pierre, UFC President Dana White assures St-Pierre’s next fight will be against interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. “It’s going to be Whittaker,” White told the media in attendance at the UFC 217 post-fight conference(via MMAFighting) . “I don’t even know what’s going on with GSP. He was transported to the hospital, so he’s got to get stitches on his nose. If he doesn’t take Bisping down and keeps this fight standing, he comes out of that fight with almost no damage. Bisping did some serious work from his back and split his nose open and had him bleeding all over his face. He (St-Pierre) took some big shots from the top position and if he didn’t do that he probably would’ve come out unscratched. So yeah, he’s got to go to the hospital right now. We’ll see how he is and what the status is with him.”
