Khabib Nurmagomedov captured the UFC’s undisputed lightweight title at last night’s UFC 223 event in Brooklyn by scoring a dominant decision victory over “Raging” Al Iaquinta.

After extending his undefeated record to a perfect 26-0, “The Eagle” proceeded to callout UFC legend Georges St-Pierre to a showdown in his post-fight interview.

“I want to fight Georges St-Pierre in New York at MSG.” stated Khabib.

It did not take long for Nurmagomedov to receive an answer from the former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion.

The Canadian standout spoke with MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani where he addressed Khabib’s challenge with the following statement.

I asked @GeorgesStPierre what he thought of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s post-fight comments. His response: “I feel UFC and Khabib got unfinished business before I try to make a step in here to go for the 155 title.” – Ariel Helwani

St-Pierre has made it clear in previous interviews that he is confident he could make the lightweight limit of 155-pounds if given the opportunity.

With that said, it appears that “GSP” will wait for the crowded UFC lightweight title picture to sort itself out before making a run at a third division championship.
