In this video, Covington claimed that the former heavyweight champ Werdum sucker punched him. In a subsequent statement to FloCombat, Werdum assured Covington was the aggressor and that he did not throw a punch. A video from UFC lightweight Dan Hooker, finally, showed Werdum throwing a boomerang at Covington.

In his statement to FloCombat, Werdum assured he did not punch Covington, but that Covington initiated the mayhem with a kick to the leg.

“This guy is really audacious,” Werdum said. “I went down with my master [Rafael Cordeiro]: ‘Master, let’s get a hair cut and shave the beard.’ We were in the lobby, and I’ve never seen this guy before. When I walked he looked at me and said: ‘Brazilian animals.’ And I was like: ‘Hey.’ I slapped his phone and asked, ‘What did you say?’ Then, he kicked my leg, but I managed to defend. Then the guys got in the middle and had nothing left. But he kicked me, he is audacious. I could have hurt myself.

“If I had hit him in the face, he would be in the hospital,” Werdum continued. “Certainly. There was no punch, he’s crazy.”

According to a report from Sherdog.com founder Jeff Sherwood, however, security footage of the incident shows that Werdum did, in fact, punch Covington. Covington, meanwhile, is expected to press charges against Werdum in the wake of this bedlam Down Under. Local police have video and witnesses of the events that took place.
