Yoel Romero has a plan for when Georges St-Pierre announces that he will be vacating his newly obtained UFC middleweight title.

The Canadian superstar, St-Pierre, returned from a near four-year hiatus last weekend where he defeated Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 217 to become the UFC’s new middleweight champion.

St-Pierre put “The Count” to sleep in the fights third-round, this after Bisping refused to tapout to a rear-naked choke submission (watch that here).

Shortly following the conclusion of UFC 217, UFC President Dana White stated that current interim middleweight title holder Robert Whittaker would be next in line for the newly crowned champ Georges St-Pierre.

With that said, former title challenger Yoel Romero does not believe that fans will witness “GSP” do a second fight at 185-pounds.

“The Soldier of God” recently spoke with BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor where he shared his future plans based on the assumption that the UFC’s new middleweight champion will opt to vacate his title or possibly retire from the sport.

“If GSP decides to retire or go down in weight. Then the title for my division is free. Then maybe Robert Whittaker, who is number 1 the interim champion, will need to fight somebody. Maybe that somebody is me or maybe it is Luke Rockhold. I think that is what the UFC wants.”

Yoel Romero already has a history with Robert Whittaker having fought the Aussie for the UFC’s interim middleweight title in his most recent bout this past July in Las Vegas. “The Soldier of God” suffered a close decision loss to Whittaker that night at UFC 213 and would love the opportunity to run that fight back.

“Right now I only think about the belt. That is the only thing I think about. There is no other option in my head. I want to rematch Robert Whittaker for the UFC championship after GSP vacates the title.”

Taylor asked Romero when he would like to make his next octagon appearance.

“I don’t know when I’ll fight again. I would love to fight again this year. But maybe that is to close. It is almost the end of 2017. I would love to fight on the same card as Conor McGregor. If he fights in Boston this January, I would really like to be a part of that.”
