Eddie Alvarez sends a message to Reebok during weigh-in

The last time former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez stepped into the Octagon, he reportedly earned $40,000 in Reebok sponsorship money as the UFC lightweight champion at UFC 205. After being handed a 2nd round TKO loss to Conor McGregor, which saw Alvarez lose the title, he is reportedly set to earn just $5,000 in his upcoming UFC 211 fight with Dustin Poirier this weekend.

That didn’t sit too well with the former champ, who decided to put black tape over the Reebok logos on his shorts. This follows Alvarez putting black tape over the logo on his Reebok hat during the UFC 211 media day this week.

Alvarez, who recently described his loss to McGregor as a ‘nightmare’ during an interview, is of course looking to bounce back from his UFC 205 loss to Conor McGregor.

He recently spoke to MMAFighting to discuss the loss, saying:

“Climbing back from the Nov. 5th fight was difficult. I’d be lying if I told you, ‘Oh I just bounced right back off the mat.’ I needed some serious dusting off. I needed to forgive myself. I’m my own worst critic so I was very disappointed and pissed off at myself about Madison Square Garden…”

“I sat around longer than what I would’ve like to. I would’ve like to just bounce back and just get over it already but it was difficult. It was difficult for me. I put a lot into this so it was difficult but we’re over it and I’m having a great time with training and enjoying myself.”

While Eddie Alvarez is looking to return to the win column, the man who will be standing opposite him this weekend, Dustin Poirier, is looking to build on his recent UFC 208 win over Jim Miller, and isn’t going to concede without a fight.
