Eddie Alvarez says Conor McGregor ‘lives and breathes’ off the single ‘rock back’ move

UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is ready to shoot his stock up through the roof as he is set to defend his title for the first time in a historic UFC championship fight. Alvarez will defend his lightweight title against the UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor.

With “The Notorious” still retaining his status as the champion of 145, if he gets his hand raised over Alvarez on November 12 at UFC 205 in New York’s Madison Square Garden, he will become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two divison’s titles simultaneously. However, doing so will be no simple task against Eddie Alvarez.

The lightweight champion from Philadelphia is more than confident in his matchup and says he and his team already have McGregor figured out.

“To me, he’s just a left hand,” Alvarez said on the MMA Roasted podcast (as transcribed by Jose Youngs of Fansided). “He’s just a guy with a left hand. That’s how I see him. He does something that we call a ‘rock back’ well. Mayweather does it. A lot of Philly fighters do it. [McGregor] lives and breathes off it. A lot of MMA guys don’t know about these boxing things that they do. This is a move that’s very easily taken away and we’re going to dominate every step of the way.”

Alvarez is working with coach Mark Henry for the fight against McGregor and says they have already been studying “The Notorious” for quite some time. Henry has kept close tabs on McGregor in anticipation that his pupil Frankie Edgar would be getting a fight against McGregor in the featherweight division.

“Without giving away a gameplan or anything, everything’s taken away with the proper preparation,” Alvarez stated. “I’m confident in my coaches, I’m confident in our gameplan and our ability to go out there and do it. We’re just following this gameplan step-by-step.”
