Donald Cerrone wants Robbie Lawler at UFC 209

UFC welterweight contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will return to the UFC octagon at next weekend’s UFC on FOX event in Denver where he will square off with Jorge Masvidal in the evenings co-main event.

Cerrone, who has gone undefeated since moving up from lightweight to the UFC’s welterweight division, was most recently seen in action at December’s UFC 206 event in Toronto, where he scored a highlight reel third-round head kick knockout victory over Matt Brown.

“Cowboy” has stated that he hopes to fight at least four times in the 2017 calendar year. If Cerrone can pick up a victory over Masvidal next weekend in Denver, he wants to make a quick turnaround and score a fight with Robbie Lawler at UFC 209 on March 4 in Las Vegas.

Cerrone and Lawler were previously slated to meet at November’s historic UFC 205 event in New York City. However, unfortunately for fight fans, “Ruthless” was not feeling 100% and the fight booking with “Cowboy” was eventually cancelled.

Robbie Lawler has not competed inside the octagon since losing his UFC welterweight title to Tyron Woodley via first-round knockout at August’s UFC 201 event in Atlanta.

UFC 209 takes place March 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a welterweight title fight rematch between current title holder Tyron Woodley and top contender Stephen Thompson.

UFC 209 also features an interim lightweight title fight between surging 155-pound contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

The addition of Lawler vs. Cerrone to UFC 209 would surely make the card on of the most anticipated events of the 2017 calendar year.
