Dillon Danis has gotten a lot of attention since teaming up with Conor McGregor for his last two fight camps helping with his jiu-jitsu game.
Danis was initially brought in to help McGregor for his UFC 202 rematch against Nate Diaz after he was submitted by the Stockton scrapper in their initial meeting at UFC 196. After McGregor was able to get redemption by winning a majority decision over Diaz at UFC 202, Danis was a part of the training camp for McGregor’s UFC 205 fight against then-lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. McGregor ran through Alvarez and is now looking to cash in on the biggest fight of his career by stepping into the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather.
It seems the style and attitude of McGregor have rubbed off on the grappling specialist, who recently signed a contract with Bellator. Danis has claimed that he is the highest paid fighter in Bellator and feels he has the biggest following on their roster.
“I have a bigger following and a bigger name than anyone on the roster,” Danis said on The MMA Hour after the announcement of his signing with Bellator (transcribed by Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting). “So at the end of the day I wasn’t surprised. It was the right move for them. You can put any of those bums against me, and they’ll get a rating.”
That statement Danis made has reflections of McGregor all over it and now, Danis is even looking a little bit more like “The Notorious.” Danis posted a few photos recently to social media sporting a full head of blonde hair, getting just a little closer in looks to the UFC lightweight champion.
What are your thoughts on Dillon Danis making his way to competing in mixed martial arts? Will he find success like his friend and training partner Conor McGregor? Let’s get your take on how things will go for the grappling star who has yet to make his MMA debut but is getting some attention on his journey there.
