Demain Maia predicts Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson

Welterweight contender and submission ace Demain Maia certainly has a vested interest in Tyron Woodley’s upcoming title defense against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.

Riding a six-fight win streak, Maia very well may be next in line for a shot at the welterweight belt, but in the meantime, Maia offered his prediction on how Woodley’s UFC 205 title fight with ‘Wonderboy’ will go down!

“The fight is a little more for ‘Wonderboy,’” Maia said. “I think he probably will be able to control the way Rory (MacDonald) did with Woodley. Like movement and control the distance, but Woodley is always dangerous with the big right hand. If he hits him with the right hand, it will be a problem.

“If not, I think ‘Wonderboy’ will win by points or TKO, something like that.”

Woodley and ‘Wonderboy’ will face off at UFC 205 for the promotions debut in the Empire State. While Woodley was initially looking at other ‘big money’ fights following his brutal first-round knockout of former champ Robbie Lawler, he eventfully signed the contract to fight Thompson.

‘Wonderboy’ himself is riding a seven-fight win streak and hasn’t lost a fight since his lone defeat to Matt Brown back in 2012. The 33-year-old striker last defeated Rory MacDonald in June to earn his shot at UFC gold.

Maia is expected to face the winner of Woodley vs. Thompson, making his prediction even more significant given he will likely fight whoever walks away with the belt in November.

Who do you see winning the fight between Woodley and ‘Wonderboy’? Will the champ retain his title? Or will Thompson be the man to walk away with the belt? Sound off, PENN Nation!
