Daniel Cormier invites Ovince Saint Preux to train at AKA for bout with Jon Jones

By Russell Ess - April 4, 2016

Current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is unfortunately out of his title fight with Jon Jones at UFC 197 in April due to an injury suffered in training. It was announced by the UFC that Ovince Saint Preux would be stepping in as a late replacement for Cormier to face Jones in an interim title fight.

Cormier spoke with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour on Monday and surprised everyone when he invited OSP to join AKA in preparation for the bout with Jones.

“We’ll open our doors to him (OSP) to come and train at the American Kickboxing Academy,” Cormier said. “I don’t care what happens in the future. I can’t train with Ovince, but I got a guy named Cain Velasquez that can train with him, a guy named Luke Rockhold that can train with him, a guy named Chi Lewis-Parry, got a guy named Frank Munoz.”

Cormier even stated that they will take care of Saint Preux’s flight and housing for the training camp.

“We have everything in place where he can just take my training camp. For the next few weeks, take my training camp. We will take care of it. We will fly Ovince and his team out here, give him a place to stay because no one in this gym wants to see Jon Jones not have to fight a tough fight on April 23rd.

“Jon needs to go out there and win and look great, but we want to give Ovince a chance and every guy on my team, they’re willing to play a part in that.”

Cormier says that he just wants to live through Saint Preux when he fights Jones on April 23rd because no one wants to fight Jones more than he does, but he simply is not able to do so with the injury.
