Back in June, MMA legend Dan Henderson picked up a spectacular highlight reel KO win over former Olympian Hector Lombard. Henderson landed a perfectly placed elbow in the moment that Lombard was trying to land a single leg takedown.

After the win, many believed that the 45 year old would retire, however Henderson had other plans. Ultimately, the UFC booked a middleweight title fight between Henderson and Bisping, a rematch of their UFC 100 fight that saw Henderson starch Bisping.

Ahead of the rematch at UFC 204 on October 8th, Henderson revealed on The MMA Hour that he was ready to retire after his win over Lombard:

“Depending on what were options were afterwards as far as employment goes, I was ready to have that one be me last fight. Depending on, like I said, what options I had. And for whatever reason, the stars aligned and the fans asked for one more fight I guess.”

Henderson stated that he “absolutely” was prepared to retire following the win, but hopes his rematch with Bisping will be a proper sendoff:

“To have an opportunity to go out on top is more desirable I guess.”
