Dana White not so confident on whether Conor McGregor will fight again after Mayweather bout

By Russell Ess - July 12, 2017

Conor McGregor is already one of the highest-paid stars fighting in the UFC and could potentially make more in this single boxing match against Floyd Mayweather than he has in his entire mixed martial arts career.

UFC President Dana White stated early on when negotiations were still going on that he estimated with his predicted numbers on how the fight sells, “The Notorious” would likely make around $75 million and Mayweather would make over $100. McGregor believes he will make over $100 million given that White’s estimates were based on conservative numbers for how the fight sells and didn’t include endorsements and his other business ventures that are tied to the mega money boxing match.

To put things into perspective, it is estimated that “The Notorious” made around $15 million for his rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202, which is also estimated as being one of the UFC’s highest selling pay-per-view cards in history.

UFC President Dana White spoke with the media following the first stop of the Mayweather vs. McGregor world tour in Los Angeles on Tuesday and gave an honest answer on if “The Notorious” will be too comfortable to fight after his massive payday on August 26.

“I had a bunch of guys who worked for us in the UFC and made a bunch of money and they’re gone now. You know? You just don’t know, if he’s going to come in and make this kind of money, he might never fight again,” White admitted (transcribed by Dave Doyle for MMA Fighting).

While White is just being realistic in the situation, the UFC President isn’t afraid if his UFC money maker steps away from competition and just sees it for what it is.

“That’s part of the deal, you know?” White said. “This kid has done a lot for the sport, a lot for the company and this is the fight that he wanted, so we’re going to give it to him. And if this is the end of his career, then it is what it is. “
