Colby Covington and Mike Perry, two of the UFC’s most promising welterweight contenders, have been exchanging a bit of trash talk on Twitter.

This heat began when when a fan asked Covington what his prediction was for Mike Perry’s UFC Pittsburgh scrap with Thiago Alves. Given that Alves is one of Covington’s teammates at American Top Team, his answer wasn’t particularly surprising.

“Lil [Mike Perry] let an underwear model have his way with him,” Covington said, referencing Perry’s recent loss to model-turned-fighter Alan Jouban. “[Thiago Alves] KOs him. Violently.”

It didn’t take long for Perry return fire.

“[Your] fights suck so bad,” Perry said. “All you do is hug your opponents for 15 minutes. Your coach about to retire.”

Colby Covington, who currently holds the number eight spot in the UFC welterweight rankings, is on a red-hot streak. Since joining the UFC, he’s defeated Anying Wang, Wagner Silva, Mike Pyle, Jonathan Meunier, Max Griffin, Bryan Barberena, and most recently, long-time contender Dong Hyun Kim. His lone Octagon loss occurred in 2015 when he was tapped out by Warlley Alves. Covington has been rewarded for his recent streak with a UFC Fight Night 118 battle with recent welterweight title challenger Demian Maia.

Perry, meanwhile, is set to return to the cage in Pittsburgh this very weekend, when he will battle Thiago Alves. In his last fight, he picked up a 2017 knockout of the year contender, putting Jake Ellenberger down with a slicing elbow to the head. His next most recent Octagon appearance saw him come up short to Jouban, while is two previous fights saw him knock out Danny Roberts and Hyun Gyu Lim.

Would you be interested in seeing “Platinum” Mike Perry and Colby Covington collide somewhere down the road? Which of these two welterweight contenders do you think would win?
