In an appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’, Jorge Masvidal reacted to the news that UFC star Amanda Nunes has left American Top Team: “To see her progress is amazing. To see her progress under American Top Team, my same gym, it’s like wow! I never worked out with her or sparred or anything but to some extent, the journey that she had was like shared with me. It just definitely hurts not to have her there I think.” Masvidal said (h/t WMMARankings). “But man, I’m just always wishing the best for her. She’s going to do her own thing….Obviously, it hurts and obviously, I want her to stay at American Top Team and I think we all do, we all love her. So it’s like a… It’s a devastating blow.”

The final UFC pay-per-view of 2021 went down on Saturday as the promotion returned to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for a stacked UFC 269 card. The event saw two titles on the line as Charles Oliveira was defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. The co-main event saw Amanda Nunes return to bantamweight to battle Julianna Pena. UFC 269 ended up being a phenomenal card as in the main event it was Oliveira winning by third-round submission after being dropped early. In the co-main event, Pena pulled off a massive upset as she submitted Nunes to dethrone the long-reigning champ. Now, after UFC 269 here is what I think should be next for the four fighters involved in the title fights.

New UFC women’s bantamweight champ Julianna Pena offered former champ Amanda Nunes an immediate rematch following her crazy upset at UFC 269. Pena submitted Nunes in the second round in what was one of the craziest upsets we have ever seen in MMA history. After Nunes won the first round, Pena was able to get the better of Nunes on the feet in the second round, and then she got her to the ground and choked her out. It was an absolutely amazing showing by Pena, who proved that she was a worthy challenger for the title. Still, there are many people who believe this was a bit of a fluke and they want to see a rematch as soon as possible, and Pena is all for that happening.
