MMA NEWS – Thomson/Noons, Kaufman/Davis & Daley/Misaki Added To Strikeforce Columbus on March 3
A trio of bouts was announced during tonight’s “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine” telecast for the just made official March third event scheduled for Columbus Ohio.
A lightweight bout between Josh Thomson and KJ Noons, a welterweight bout between Paul Daley and Kazua Misaki and a female attraction between Sarah Kaufmann and Alexis Davis are the recent additions to the evening’s main card.
The March 3rd event is set to go down from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio and is set to be headlined by the previously announced title fight between challenger Ronda Rousey and champion Miesha Tate.
Up until tonight’s telecast, the event date, headliner and venue where rumored but yet to be confirmed. With the four-fights now official, these will likely make up the entirety of the main card.
Misaki is a Japanese based fighter who last fought under the DEEP banner in April of 2011 with a win over Akira Shoji. It was his second straight win.
Welcoming him will be the hard hitting Brit, Paul Daley, who last saw action against in October in a fight against Luigi Fioravanti in which he earned a unanimous decision victory.
Kaufman vs. Davis is set for the women’s bantamweight division and likely brings the winner one-step closer to a title shot. The former champion Kaufman originally lost her title at the hands of Marloes Coenen back in 2010. It was her one and only defeat as a professional Mixed Martial Artist.
Davis brings into the fight a three-fight win streak which includes her most recent win this past October over the tough and durable Amanda Nunes.
Former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Josh Thomson is poised to come in after a long layoff from action due to injury. Thomson last saw action all the way back at DREAM Dynamite 2010 where he took a fight against Kawajiri on extremely short notice and suffered the consequences with a decision loss.
Noons was last seen on the right side of a decision victory when he faced off with Billy Evangelista during last month’s Strikeforce event. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak which he respectably put together against Nick Diaz and Jorge Masvidal.
