MMA NEWS – Santos Trying To Clear Her Name: Appeals Process Started

Sticking to her defense of tainted supplements, former Strikeforce featherweight champion, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has begun the appeals process to try and regain her license to fight from the California State Athletic Commission.

If found innocent of the infraction which caused her to be suspended and stripped of her title, she would be back on track and right back where she left off. However, to overturn a positive drug screening is an uphill battle, and claiming ignorance to what was in your diet is not a good enough defense.

SI has more details:

[box_light]Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has begun the process to appeal a one-year suspension handed down by the California State Athletic Commission on Jan. 6 for alleged steroid use, her personal manager confirmed to SI.com.

Santos’ manager, who asked not to be identified by name, said a response letter was mailed to the CSAC on Monday requesting a hearing in front of the seven-member commission.

The CSAC suspended the Strikeforce 145-pound women’s champion after a pre-fight urinalysis came back positive for Stanzolol metabolites following Santos’ dominant 16-second victory over Hiroko Yamanaka on Dec. 17. As it stands, Santos will be eligible to appear before the CSAC for license reinstatement on Dec. 16. Santos was also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and the fight’s result was changed to a “No Decision” by the CSAC.

CSAC Executive Officer George Dodd said Santos’ appeal would likely be heard at an April 6 meeting with the venue to be determined.

be a man and face it cyborg !

  4. Yari says:

I wouldn’t want to be indentified by name either, if I had to appeal something like this.

  5. Cain says:

This is ridiculous. As an athlete, YOU are ultimately responsible for what goes in to your body. If you fail a test, that means a banned substance is/was in your system. Fighters will lose less respect if they simply own up to what they did and take their lumps from the AC. What Cyborg needs to do is come out with an official apology — one that is not passing the blame — serve her suspension and come back clean. I wish that once a fighter got caught using, they had to submit to a test once a month for at least a couple years, after their initial suspension was lifted.

  6. Thom says:

    God she looks creepy.

    I WOULD HIT THAT..

  13. Bigfan says:

Bas Rutten: “If it was really in your supplements, submit a sample to the commission and help other fighters from making the same mistake.”

  14. Josh Koshchek is a felcher says:

She should just finish her sex change operation and fight Jose Aldo.

  15. e says:

  16. HomoCop says:

With all the homo-eroticism on this Site you’d think that all of the closet gays might be refreshed to see this pic (Cyborg, nice name). ne-ways, it’s the halfway point for coming out fellas – a chick that looks like a dude. step 2? go n get that meat.

  17. Jenn says:

That picture really isn’t helping. I think they dressed her up and did the hair and makeup in an effort to combat all the claims that she’s on ‘roids (before and after she tested positive), but it really just emphasizes how she is not traditionally feminine at all, and in fact, has features that add fuel to the fire.

  18. runner32 says:

who is the dude in the picture?
