MMA NEWS – Eddie Alvarez Loses Lightweight Title Last Night In Bellator 58 Main Event (Video)

After last night’s UFC 139 main event between Dan Henderson and “Shogun” Rua, in what will more than likely go down as the best fight in UFC history, it was easy to look past the Bellator Main event between Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler.

The team at Bellator called it the best fight in MMA history and as I woke up this morning hung-over from last night’s UFC event I turned on the DVR and took a peak at what all the hype was about.

It was a good fight, Eddie Alvarez lost his title in the fourth round by rear naked choke and outside of that, there was nothing real notable for me to comment on.

If you guys missed it you can check out the full fight video at the end of the entry following the Bellator 58 results.

MAIN CARD:
Michael Chandler def. champ Eddie Alvarez via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 4, 3:06 – becomes new lightweight title

Jessica Aguilar def. Lisa Ellis by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Marlon Sandro def. Rafael Dias via submission (arm-triangle choke) – Round 1, 3:56

PRELIMINARY CARD:

Fabio Mello def. Farkhad Sharipov by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

  1. Wade Baskin says:

Wow! What a fight! Not the “caliber” of the Shogun/Hendo fight with all the bells and whistles, but definitely one of the better MMA fights! Non-stop fighting, great energy in all rounds, unbelievable chin on the Challenger – how did Michael even make it out of the 3rd round?! Then for Alvarez to give his back in the 4th?! Oh my…stopped as fast as it started. This is one of those fights you want to keep :)

  2. ThaGreenBandit says:

Pretty good fight, but as far as the best in MMA history, absolutely not. If Alvarez wants to keep from getting his feelings hurt, he better stay in Bellator, because IMO, he’s far from the top 155er in MMA. I think he’d get his lunch money taken in the UFC

    • Clarence Worley says:

Alvarez would be hanging on a coat-hook by his underwear if he came to the UFC.

That said, let’s see it. He’s probably not under a champion’s clause anymore. Let’s see what you got against real fighters Edddie

      • ThaGreenBandit says:

I don’t think it’ll happen. Alvarez has made it pretty clear in the past that he doesn’t want any part of the UFC. Some excuse about not wanting to be another disposable fighter, or some lame excuse like that.

  3. UFCADDICTED says:

WHAT A WAR. I TRULY ENJOYED WATCHING THIS BATTLE LAST NIGHT. MICHAELS FIGHTING STYLE KIND OF REMINDS OF SOMETHING SIMILAR TO HOW BEN FIGHTS I THOUGHT. PROPS 2 BOTH FIGHTERS FOR GOING ALL OUT.

  4. Great fight! Chandler was too strong and was relentless. Alvarez had this fight.. he’ll be back!

  5. This guy says:

He does not seem like the tyoe (Alvarez) to be afraid. But it does seem as if he is scared of getting beat and cut in the UFC. He acts as if he wants to be a big fish in a small pond at Bellator. I thknk he would do good in the UFC, but not be a champ. Maybe a gatekeeper if he worked hard at it.

  6. Bigfan says:

The author of this is retarded! “Other than losing his belt in the fourth round by rear-naked choke, there was nothing else for me to comment on.” Apparently this guy didn’t watch the rest of the fight.
