Michael Chandler to Get Title Shot Over Will Brooks?
Despite the fact that Bellator Interim Champion Will Brooks just earned a decision win over former champion Michael Chandler, it appears that it could be Chandler, not Brooks, who is getting the next shot at Eddie Alvarez.
Alvarez hinted at this on twitter today, saying “I tried my best Big homie Your boss ain’t having it , I feel bad U earned it , but unfortunately Interm is all Ur getting a shot at F’ed up.”
While nothing has been confirmed yet by Bellator, it wouldn’t be surprising, given the promotion’s recent change in their tournament structure, which allows any tournament winner to get a title shot without having to go through another tournament.
While Bellator may be deciding to go with the exciting trilogy fight between Chandler and Alvarez, Eddie doesn’t appear to be happy about the scenario. On a recent episode of the MMA Hour, Alvarez claimed that he believes Brooks should get the shot, since he is the interim champion and coming off of a win. He also pointed out that he thinks Brooks is the easier fight for him to leave Bellator with a win.
Eddie Alvarez (25-3) last fought at Bellator 106, where he defeated Chandler (12-2) via close split decision. Chandler and Brooks (14-1) last fought at Bellator 120, where Brooks also defeated Chandler via close split decision.
