2013 has been a difficult year for Michael Bisping.  Just when he seemed positioned for his first shot at the middleweight belt, he suffered a vicious KO from Vitor Belfort in January.  Then, following his June bout against Alan Belcher, the British fighter underwent surgery for a detached retina.  Most recently, as he was preparing to take on Mark Munoz later this month, Bisping was forced out of the bout for another eye surgery.

More complications arose yesterday as Bisping was rushed to a local hospital after experience agonizing pain.  Initial reports stated that he had undergone emergency surgery, but it was later confirmed with Bisping’s management that no surgery was required.

It is unclear how this latest incident impacts Bisping’s expected return time of 4-6 months; but it is clear that the middleweight’s first priority should be getting healthy.  Ranked 4th in the list of middleweight contenders, we can expect Bisping to return to action even after half a year off well within the division’s top ten fighters.
