Michael Bisping Having Cataract Removed – Must Pass Eye Exam for UFC

Michael Bisping has been on the bench since September due to an eye injury that could be costly to his MMA career.

He was set to face off against “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Mark Munoz at UFC Fight Night 30 in October of 2013 in Manchester, England, but the eye injury, a detached retina in his right eye which he injured during training, sidelined the fight.

Luckily for “The Count”, his surgery was a success and he is on his way to making a full recovery. He could even make an appearance in the Octagon sometime this year. That is, if he is able to pass the peripheral eye exam.

“The UFC’s medical team spoke to my doctor and I have been asked to take a peripheral eye test,” stated Bisping. “So I can only hope that I get through it. I’ll have to see how it goes. I am also having a cataract removed, which should improve the vision, but I’m at the mercy of how the test goes now.”

During Bisping’s last go around he defeated Alan Belcher by unanimous decision at UFC 159 back in April. Before that, Bisping lost to Vitor Belfort via a nasty head kick knockout at UFC on FX7. He has been on a bit of a roller coaster as of late with a victory over Brian Stann in September of 2012. Prior to that a loss to Chael Sonnen in January.

If Bisping is able to pass his eye exam he will have no problem getting a fight as Tim Kennedy is ready to throw down with the Brit, and Mark Munoz feels like they have “unfinished business”.
