Metamoris 3 Airs Tonight – Here’s Why The MMA Fan Can’t Miss It

For the hardcore Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fan, watching Metamoris 3: Gracie vs Bravo is a no-brainer. Everyone else will probably think “What is Metamoris, and why should I watch it?” Metamoris is a submission grappling organization, founded by Ralek Gracie. Unlike traditional grappling tournament, this is done in a way that is much more spectator friendly. There is only one match at a time, held on a very large, open mat, which is on a raised platform. Much like an MMA fight card, there are a number of matches that were carefully crafted to be competitive and interesting, with only the top names in the submission grappling world, and some of the best grapplers from MMA as well. The matches are 20 minutes long, and are submission only. No points are scored, meaning that aggression in going for the finish is encouraged. 3 judges can select a victor if no finish happens in the allotted time, but they will generally score matches a draw unless one competitor clearly dominates the other. Some matches will take place in the gi, with others will be no-gi matches.

Metamoris 3 could be the most exciting event to date, featuring a headlining bout between Royler Gracie and Eddie Bravo. The names “Gracie” and “Bravo” should immediately ring a bell to any MMA fan. The Gracie family, of course, is responsible for the genesis of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where Royce Gracie made his mark on his sport. Royler, his brother, is no stranger to MMA either, fighting 11 times in professional Mixed Martial Arts. However, Royler’s true claim to fame is his accomplishments in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where he is one of the most decorated grapplers in the history of the sport, winning multiple gold medals at the highest levels of competition. Bravo, on the other hand, is famous for his 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu schools, where he has helped train many MMA notables in the art of no-gi grappling, including Chuck Liddell, Ronda Rousey, Shinya Aoki, and Joe Rogan. The main event is a rematch of epic proportions; in 2003, a then-unknown Eddie Bravo upset a highly-touted Royler Gracie in an Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championship match, submitting him late with a triangle choke.

The rest of the matches on the card should be just as exciting. The most notable other matches on the card feature a host of notables from the BJJ and MMA worlds. Rafael Mendes, considered to be one of the pound for pound greatest grapplers in active competition, takes on Clark Gracie, also known as the “Ridiculously Photogenic Jiu-Jitsu Guy,” in a match that is sure to thrill. UFC veteran Vinny Magalhaes, who has 18 pro MMA fights and a slew of grappling championships to his name, takes on one of the most rapidly rising stars in the grappling world, Keenan Cornelius. In a battle between former UFC fighters, Footlock master Dean Lister takes on the always dangerous Renato “Babalu” Sobral, who has recently re-entered the grappling scene. Also on the card are two matches between high level grapplers; Samir Chantre takes on Guilherme Mendes, and Zak Maxwell faces Sean Roberts

Metamoris 3 takes places today at 4:00 PM PT.. Reserve your stream ticket here.
