Melvin Guillard vs. Donald Cerrone Booked For UFC 150 | UFC NEWS
By Jonathan Kirschner
Former training partners Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard are all set to fight at UFC 150 which takes places in Denver, Colorado on August 11 2012, UFC announced on Friday.
The two had once trained together in Albuquerque, New Mexico under Greg Jackson, but that won’t keep them from trying to bash each other’s faces in during their fight. On that matter, Guillard posted on his Twitter, “Two best friends fighting we are about to kick each other in the face fun times right!!!”
Melvin Guillard was riding a wave of momentum in 2011 where he collected two impressive knockout victories in a row over Evan Dunham and Shane Roller. His final fight of the year was against Joe Lauzon, and it was a disappointing performance for the “Young Assassin”, to say the least. An eager and over-aggressive Guillard got caught with a punch and ended up in a rear naked choke 47 seconds into the first round. He went on to lose his next fight against Jim Miller, once again getting submitted by a rear naked choke.
Guillard just recently ended his two fight losing streak at UFC 148 against Fabrício Camões.
Donald Cerrone witnessed a similar path in 2011. Starting off the year with three wins and two awards (Knockout of the Night and Submission of the Night), Cerrone ran into a bit of a road block when he was defeated by Nate Diaz at UFC 141. Even though their collective performance had earned them Fight of the Night honors, it wasn’t the result Cerrone was looking for in his final fight of the year.
Cerrone returned to the octagon at UFC on Fuel TV: Korean Zombie vs. Poirier and rebounded by picking up a win over Jeremy Stephens by way of unanimous decision.
UFC 150 will take place on August 11, 2012 in Denver, Colorado at the Pepsi Center. The card is headlined by another lightweight fight where champion Ben Henderson will once again defend his title against Frankie Edgar.

This is a great fight. Both are exciting fighters to watch. But I think cowboy might take it.
i agree he has a much better ground game he pretty much just needs to take guillard down and from there it is an easy submission, no offence to guillard though he is an exciting fighter, but in this day of mma you have to be good in everything if you want to contend for a title
if henderson looses to frankie edgar, I would love to see a henderson vs cerone 3 or a pettis vs henderson 2 for the title if he wins
This has Fight Of The Night written all over it!
you mean “picking up an EASY win against Jeremy Stephenson”
Who is jeremy stephenson asshole? And what does he have to do with cerrone fighting guillard?
? no I meant what I posted…
Yupp
Awesome fight and a great test for both guys to see where they are at within the LW picture.
Cerrone’s gonna whoop him. His jiu jitsu is miles ahead of Guillard, and to top it off, I wouldn’t doubt it if he beats him striking too.
nice matchup!
Based on style GREAT match up. I would love to see this but sorry Melvin I dont think your the smartest fighter out there. You are explosive as hell but not a smart fighter and this will be another loss on his record
Didn’t guillard just show everybody how bad he really is and that he’s not a top contender in the lw division by just squeaking by the last no name fight he just had did anybody else see that. He better step it back up for cerrone
Even no cerrones not a top guy either but should make a good bloodfest
Yeah that was after the J-LO mauling too…. Another submission loss for Guilard, but this time He gets beat down in the Striking, Cowboy has some serious Muay Thai
Everytime someone calls fight of the night for a match one of the fighters pulls a condit.
Cerrone all the way! I love watching Guillard fight, but Cerrone is whole nother class of fighter! Will be an awesome fight though!
if melvin stays on the feet imo he’ll take it,,,
You must be new
+1
Cerrone by murder.
Diaz showed us that Cowboy can have troubles against someone with good boxing so it’s not that far fetched to think Melvin could catch him standing, he’s got great skill and some real power. Then again I can also see Cowboy picking him apart if he keeps distance and stays on the outside. If it does hit the floor Melvin could be in serious danger real quick. Super stoked for this match! Best of luck to both guys, just hoping for a good showing.
Cerrone looked excellent in his last fight. Guillard didn’t look so hot last week. I’m going with Cerrone on this one but you never know what can happen.
Good point.Guillard did Look like shit last fight. But if that fight remains on the feet,I cant seem to count Guillard out. He’s fast, and explosive as ****.He’s gona need to work on his defense, leg kicks particularly. That can be Cerronnes key to victory,or by submission…Thats Guillards weekness.
Melvin has learned nothing new was lucky to win that last one i dont see this one going long sorry melvin, get a ground game or u will be cut,im sick of watching the same fight from him over and over and over, how many chances will he get? Some dudes only get one chance and one chance alone but this dude gets like 10?
If Melvin loses I say send him to Melendez.
Cowboy takes it on the feet and DEFINITLY takes it on the ground… bad matchup for Guillard
Cerrone via KO, melvin gets cut. dude has never beaten ANYONE legit.
Melvin gets this one. Cerrone isn’t explosive enough to takedown Melvin so that leaves them standing which can go anyway but I’ll pick Melvin..
Sounds awful familiar…. oh wait, thats what everyone said before he fought Joe Lauzon
Hey, the Natural What do you mean Cowboy is no top tier or top guy in the LW div?? He has handled everyone but Diaz . One big reason to that is he let Diaz get in his head !Just like his big bro Nick. if Cowboy fought his fight and went to the ground when Nate triped or threw him things could have gone a lot different! Its no secret that Nates jits is top notch but Cerrone is def no slouch on the ground. the ONLY thing that I see different between Melvin and Stephins is ones black and the others white . They both stand and look for the extra brutal KO!. But to say Cerrone not a top tier fighter is just laughable!
Melvin is an aggressive and cocky fighter. Those are his strengths and but also reasons of his losses. He abandons gameplans and defense but his offense is his best defense.
He is quick, explosive, and strong. I am afraid that if he thinks too much, he won’t be that effective.
This fight with cowboy is very interesting because Cerrone is a great Muay Thai MMA fighter. This match will be a beaut!
