Melendez on Pettis: ‘I’m better in a bunch of different dimensions.’
Gilbert Melendez is gearing up for the Ultimate Fighter 20, where he will be coaching a team against Lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. Pettis, who is known for his flashy punches, unbelievable kicks, and imaginable movement, is a formidable opponent for many fighters, and why he’s such an exciting champion, but Gilbert Melendez doesn’t feel like he has anything to fear.
“His striking and his kicks and his creativity is awesome, but it’s nothing I fear at all,” Melendez said. “I feel quite confident in this matchup. I feel like stylistically, this is a matchup I’ve been wanting for a long time.”
In fact, Melendez feels that he can easily overcome many of Pettis’ strengths with his multifaceted fighting.
“I think he’s a great guy and creative, but I’m not scared of those kicks at all. I feel I can walk right through them, to be honest. He’s good at what he does, but I think I’m better in a bunch of different dimensions.”
