Matt Wiman to Face T.J. Grant at UFC on Fox 6
UFC officials announced today that Matt Wiman will face T.J. Grant in a lightweight matchup in Chicago on the UFC on Fox 6 card. The event will be held on January 26 from the United Center in Chicago, IL.
Wiman was last seen submitting previously unbeaten Paul Sass in September on the UFC on Fuel TV: Struve vs. Miocic card in Nottingham, England. The pair put on a great display of grappling and Sass almost had Wiman caught in a heel hook, but “Handsome” prevailed submitting Sass with an armbar at 3:48 of round one.
Grant has won three straight bouts including a win over Evan Dunham at UFC 152 that earned both men Fight of the Night honors. The two went back and forth for 15 minutes, but Grant walked away with the unanimous decision victory. Before that he defeated Carlo Prater and Shane Roller.
UFC on Fox 6 will feature a battle for the UFC flyweight title as champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will defend the title he won against Joseph Benavidez at UFC 152 for the first time against John Dodson. “The Magician” earned his title shot by knocking out promotional newcomer Jussier Formiga in October on the UFC on FX: Browne vs. Bigfoot card.
Light Heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson are scheduled to face off as well in Chicago. They were supposed to fight at UFC 153, but Jackson was forced out with an injury. Teixeira ran his UFC record to 2-0 with a 2nd round TKO over Fabio Maldonado who was a late replacement for Jackson. ”Rampage” has this one last fight on his contract and he has made it clear that he will leave the UFC once he fulfills the terms of his contract.
Former WEC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis will finally take on Donald Cerrone in what is sure to be a Fight of the Night candidate. There is certainly no love lost between these two and the winner could face the winner of the UFC on Fox 5 UFC lightweight title fight between champion Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz.
