Matt Mitrione Steps In For The Injured Shane Carwin at TUF: 16 Finale | UFC NEWS

When Shane Carwin announced he was injured and could not compete in the TUF: 16 main event against Roy Nelson the UFC president thought, “Not again.” Well it didn’t take long to find a replacement, less than 24 hours later Matt Mitrione agreed to step in and take the toughest fight of his career against Roy Nelson on Dec. 15th in the main event of the TUF: 16 finale.

The two TUF alumni and former teammates on season 10 will now face off in a heavyweight showdown. Mitrione hasn’t fought since he lost to Cheick Kongo at UFC 137 back in October 29, 2011. Roy Nelson fought and beat Dave Herman via KO (punches) at UFC 146 May 26, 2012. Both these fighters have great hands and should it stay on the feet it will be a great battle.

Roy Nelson will hold the edge on the ground and experience holding a record of 17-7 and fighting some of the best heavyweights in MMA today like Frank Mir, Fabricio Werdum, and Junior Dos Santos to name a few. Matt Mitrione will have the edge in speed, athleticism and cardio; Mitrione is a former NFL football player and is 5-1 in the UFC. It will be interesting and exciting when these two meet in the 5 round main event live on FX December 15, 2012 in Las Vegas.

Mitrione might have the speed and cardio but he doesn’t have that one punch knock out power Big Country does. I say Roy KO’s him in the 3rd.
