Mark Hunt vs. Roy Nelson Please‏

Roy “Big Country” Nelson (20-9 MMA, 7-5 UFC) is coming off a devastating first-round knockout victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, which he earned in the main event of last week’s ‘UFC Fight Night 39’ event in Abu Dhabi.

The victory over “Big Nog” snapped a 2-fight losing skid for Nelson and moved him back up to the heavyweight division’s top 10 ranks.

With that said, the former “TUF 10” winners next bout should (in theory) come against a fellow top 10 ranked heavyweight. If I could play Joe Silva (UFC Matchmaker) for just once in my life, I would personally choose Mark Hunt to be Nelson’s next opponent.

Like Roy Nelson, Mark Hunt (9-8-1 MMA, 4-2-1 UFC) is a fan-favorite who is best known for his remarkable punching power, iron jaw and less-than-stellar physique.

“The Super Samoan” has been out of action since his December 2013 “Fight of the year” candidate bout with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, which resulted in a draw.

Mark Hunt is currently the UFC’s #8 ranked heavyweight, while Roy Nelson holds down the divisions #9 spot.

A bout between the bearded-brawler (Nelson) and the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix champion (Hunt) would surely equal fireworks.

All seven of Roy Nelson’s UFC victories have come by form of knockout or TKO, while all five of his losses have come via judge’s decision.

Meanwhile, 3 of Mark Hunt’s 4 career octagon victories have come by way of knockout or TKO.

Prior to Hunt’s #1 contenders bout with Junior dos Santos in May of 2013, Roy Nelson touched on a potential fight with the New Zealand slugger:

“Mark Hunt, if he can get past (Junior dos Santos), that’s great. If he doesn’t, I’d still fight Mark Hunt because I know the fans want to see that one. I’m all about making everybody happy.”

Hunt and Nelson are easily 2 of the UFC’s hardest hitting strikers, but who would emerge victorious if the pair fought? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!
