Mark Hunt: “I Don’t Really Care How Long It Takes To Get A Title Shot. I’m Just Going To Keep Fighting”
By Micah Hinchliffe:
Former K-1 superstar Mark Hunt looks to continue his recent string of victories against Stefan Struve at UFC 146 on May 26th. Yet due to recent occurrences, an underground movement known as ‘The Army of Doom’ has created a rally for Mark Hunt to replace Alistair Overeem for a title shot at the same event should “The Reem” be unable to fight. With backing from UFC commentator Joe Rogan the rally has thrived among the social networking sites.
In a recent interview with Bloodyelbow.com the “Super Samoan” gave his views on Alistair Overeem’s failed drug test, social networking and a possible title shot in his future. When asked what he thought of the movement, Hunt stated:
“The Army of Doom, brother. The Army of Doom. Thanks to the guys at the Underground. I think they started it. It was pretty cool, so good on them. I’m on board 100%. And Twitter, I’m on it all the time. I’m like a junkie. I can’t get off it…It’s great. I can feel the love. I’m enjoying it, and it’s a whole lot of fun.”
With support for the rally from Hunt himself, it’s clear that he’s after a title shot whenever matchmaker Joe Silva gives him the call. Hunt believes that it’s good to stay active and fight as often as he can, which would explain why he requested to fight in Australia at UFC on FX after recently disposing of Cheick Kongo the previous week in Japan. When asked about how soon he was able to take the Struve fight Hunt stated:
“I’m pretty glad to get this fight so soon. I think the guys that don’t fight for such a long time, they don’t stay sharp. It’s hard to fight again, if you take a long time off, but if you fight constantly, it’s pretty good, and it keeps you skills sharp. Injury-wise, I’m pretty good. I haven’t been injured that badly, so I’ve been lucky.”
When asked his opinion on Alistair Overeem’s failed drug test, Hunt compares him with sprinter’s who lose their medals for use of TRT. Which brings the question of Alistair’s achievements now being null and void should he confess to the use of TRT:
“That’s on Alistair and those other people that are taking it. It’s like those sprinters that took it. Ben Johnson and Marion Jones lost all their gold medals. That was the same sort of sh*t, wasn’t it? So now, everything he’s (Overeem) done and accomplished is in question now. They f*cked their sh*t up. I’m not going to sit here and judge, but you asked me the question, so that’s my opinion on it…It’s a cutthroat business, but I don’t take that sh*t. I don’t really care what they’re taking. They can take as much as they like, but when you get punched in the teeth or the lips or whatever it is, you’re still gonna be going to sleep. It doesn’t matter how much steroids you take. People take that stuff to train harder or for recovery, but if you get hit, you’ll still go to sleep.”
Besides his UFC debut Hunt has destroyed every opponent put in front of him by demonstrating his world class kick boxing skills. Hunt admits he doesn’t know how many fights until he is given a title shot:
“1, 2, 3, 4, 5…I don’t really care how long it takes to get a title shot. I’m just going to keep fighting. It’s not my decision, what goes on with who gets a title shot. I mean, some people get their shots in two or three fights. They’re pretty lucky. I wish I could be like them.”

I love Mark Hunt.
Give him the shot already…
Love the bandwagoneering involved here, mark hunt is an incredible and humble person, but thinking that he deserves a title shot, or would even stand a chance in the ring with JDS is just ludicrous
If you knew anything about mark hunt, you would know it is completely ignorant to think he doesn’t stand a chance against JDS.
Realistically anyone has a “chance” in the ring.
Mark Hunt has an extremely ****ing good chance, Especially against JDS… they are both strikers.
Most of Hunt’s losses are submissions.
as much as i like mar ****, i mean mark hunt and would love to see him fight jds, i think santos would take the win, although mark hunt may have the ability to win i just dont see him doing it. but hey some crazy shit has happened in that ring that i never expect and anything could happen, and im sure it would be a good ****ing fight.
