Mark Bocek out, Jesse Ronson in against Michel Prazeres at UFC 165

Mark Bocek (11-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) has been forced out of his scheduled UFC 165 fight with Michel Prazeres (16-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) due to an injury. Replacing Bocek will be fellow Canadian and promotional newcomer Jesse “The Body Snatcher” Ronson (13-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

The London Free Press was first to report the news, which was subsequently confirmed by UFC officials.

Bocek confirmed the news via his twitter account stating the following:

“I’m very sorry to report that I have sustained an injury during training and I will not be able to fight at ‪#UFC165‬. I will be back stronger!”

Jesse Ronson enters the UFC on the strength of an 8-fight win streak. “The Body Snatcher” disposed of Shane Campbell with a second-round submission in his most recent effort at AFC 19 in July. Ronson’s most recent loss came back in 2011 to current UFC fighter and ’TUF’ finalist Mike Ricci. Ten of the Canadians 13 career victories have come by form of stoppage.

Meanwhile, Prazeres made his UFC debut back in May at UFC on FX 8, where he dropped a unanimous decision to veteran Paulo Thiago. The loss served as the first in Prazeres MMA career, as he was previously undefeated on the regional circuit. He will no doubt be looking to rebound when he faces Ontario native Jesse Ronson.

UFC 165 takes place September 21 live from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between current champ Jon Jones and challenger Alexander Gustafsson.
