Maquardt And Woodley Set To Throw Down For Strikeforce Title
Nate Marquardt is back in the good graces of the zuffa organization.
Although not fighting back in the UFC, Marquardt will make his Strikeforce debut in the main event of the banner’s July event against top welterweight contender Tyron Woodley. The fight will be for the now vacant Strikeforce welterweight title.
Nate Marquardt is coming off a ghastly 2011 which included his release from the UFC. His release was issued due to a failed pre-fight drug test before his main event fight at UFC on Versus against Rick Story. Testosterone replacement treatment was blamed for the failed test. Marquardt is returning to the cage for the first time since he defeated Dan Miller at UFC 128 in March of 2011.
The very tough, former University of Missouri wrestler, Woodley, is undefeated in his professional MMA career and is looking to keep the “L” column of his record clean against Marquardt. He is also coming into the fight with a very hard fought decision victory over Jordan Mein.
The Strikeforce welterweight title became vacant when former Champion Nick Diaz received a chance to fight in the UFC and as such left the promotions welterweight division without a champion.
No date or location has been decided for the Strikeforce event but current rumors suspect the fight will take place July 14th.
