After an amazing battle against UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, many people thought Alexander Gustafsson deserved an immediate rematch. It wasn’t to be, however, and Gustafsson is now set to face Jimi Manuwa (pictured) after his original opponent, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was forced out of the fight due to an injury.

Manuwa, who has won all but one of his fights by knockout, was surprised that Gustafsson decided to accept the fight.

“I asked for this fight and thought Alex would avoid me, but he is a true professional and I have great respect for him,” Manuwa said.

“[Gustafsson] knows my record and he knows how unpredictable every fight can be in the UFC,” Manuwa said. “We’ve seen [Anderson] Silva, Jones and [Georges St. Pierre] all showing their vulnerability this year.”

“Alex is a huge test for me, but it is one I have long dreamed of. I’m ready to take this opportunity to climb up the light-heavyweight ladder and get closer to my goal of being a UFC champion,” he said.

Gustafsson and Manuwa will headline the UFC Fight Night 37 card on March 8 in London.
