Man vs. Woman Fight Sanctioned: No Elbows/Knees Allowed
The fight that made headlines earlier this week, and drew ire from many in the MMA community has been sanctioned, with a couple stipulations.
The match will be between Emerson Falcao, who is a male, and Juliana Velasquez, who is a female.
The Brazilian Mixed Martial Arts Confederation (BMMAC) has apparently sanctioned the fight, but the rule set will be modified. For this fight alone, no knees or elbows of any kind will be allowed.
Whether the combatants are on the ground or on the feet, any elbow or knee that is landed with intent will immediately invoke a disqualification for either fighter.
Many in the MMA community have been critical of the upcoming bout, including UFC President Dana White, who when asked if something like this would ever happen in the UFC, he said “impossible!”
Both Velasquez and Falcao come from highly touted camps. Velasquez trains out of Team Nogueira, and Falcao trains out of Nova Uniao.
