MacDonald gets his wish, rematch with Condit set for March 2013 | UFC News
Rory MacDonald (14-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) had one request after defeating B.J. Penn via unanimous decision last weekend in Seattle. He wanted a rematch with the man who handed him his first and only loss, Carlos Condit (28-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC).
Yesterday it was announced that both MacDonald and Condit had been offered the fight, and according to sources, both have agreed to meet in March of 2013.
Condit defeated MacDonald via TKO with just 7 seconds remaining in their UFC 115 fight in June of 2010. Had the fight gone the distance, most believe MacDonald would have won the judges’ decision.
After his win over Penn this past Saturday at UFC on FOX 5 in Seattle, MacDonald stated that he was still haunted by his loss to Condit, which had left him feeling ”humiliated.” MacDonald has won four straight since his loss to Condit, and has yet to lose a round in any of those bouts.
Condit is coming off a loss to UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, MacDonald’s teammate at Tristar Gym in Montreal. The fight served as a title unification bout, merging both St-Pierre’s 170-pound belt and Condit’s interim title, which he had won in February with a unanimous decision win over Nick Diaz at UFC 143. Prior to the GSP loss, Condit was riding a five-fight streak, including his win over MacDonald.
The rematch is targeted for March 16th at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Though the UFC has not officially announced the card, sources close to the event said it will be UFC 158, a pay-per-view.
