Lyoto Machida Willing To Meet GSP At Middleweight | UFC NEWS

“I will be ready to re-start in ten days to fight in December, who knows? (A fight against GSP) would be an interesting karate duel but I don’t know at what weight we would do it. If it is at 185lbs, I will go for it.”

In a recent interview with Fighters Only Magazine, former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida, puts out an interesting statement regarding welterweight champion GSP.

While it is an interesting proposition, would GSP be better served facing off with Anderson Silva as many fans want or is a Machida match more intriguing?

  1. KingrOn84 says:

St. Pierre would have better chance giants Silva as aresult of Machidas excellent tdd compared to Silvas

  2. Alex says:

I love you Machida but fuck off. There is no way that is happening unless Anderson gets injured up to the, hypothetical, fight with GSP…

  3. the original steve says:

machida doesn’t deserve to fight gsp. where did this come from anyway?

    • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

Yeah right Machida doesn’t deserve to fight GSP what kind of clown statement is that. Machida has been fighting every 4-5 months while GSP has been out milking it for last 560 days getting FULLY JUICED back up. GSP is a disgrace for a champ should have been stripped of his belt well over a year ago. Half of GSP wins are over lightweights or natural 135lber like Ivan Menjavar. GSP has avoided all the “NEW BREED” of REAL FIGHTERS for 2 years now and I would even be surprised to see himactually show up to fight Condit. I’m sure that sleezebag greg jackson has scammed up a way so they don’t have to fight. Probably going to have his boy ROIDY fight in his place

      • v says:

        you don’t know what you’re talking about……….

      • You do know that the kind of injury that he got surgery for always takes a year to a year and a half to heal. No, GSP has never tested positive for steroids so keep making up lies and excuses and GSP doesn’t fight 135ers either you nut job. He’s fought every title contender put in front of him. Every fight he fights is the guy at the top of the 170 division. He doesn’t cut more weight than any other 170er. Kos probably weighs more than him and he got dominated. You always make more excuses on the champions on here. You’ve gotta be some fat kid that flips burgers and can’t get chicks because all you do is make up constant lies and excuses about popular fighters. Funny you never mentioned Diaz avoiding three flights and three chances to the press conference with GSP. Funny you never mentioned Machida turning down the fight with Jon Jones too.

      • CMUSMC says:

Your right the entire world sees number 1 or 2 p4p fighter on the planet but me and you we got it right. All GSP has ever done is beat the best in his division several times over. It’s crazy to think he is any good. Take away his title so the other guys can have it is what I say. God know GSP puts voodoo curses on people so they aren’t good. Me and you bro we will lead the ban all voodoo curses in MMA movement. That will show him and his black magic dominance.

      • the original steve says:

how did he avoid the “new breed of real fighters” he fought everyone they put in front of him. as someone else said gsp’s injury should take a year to heal he was back in 10 months. now on the other hand i do believe gsp is a cheating roid user. he wipes vaseline on him and in my opinion he uses roids

    • anon says:

machida doesnt have the right to fight gsp? machida is one of the best fighters on the planet. his only real losses are showgun once( no matter what anyone says, the first fight was unanimos and joe rogan tilted it with is commentary, watch the fight over with no volume and see)- he won the rampage fight even according to rampage, and he got caught by jons but was the only person so far to beat him in a round.

      • the original steve says:

machida ducked jones when he had a few weeks to prepare apparently he doesn’t want title shots. now he want to drop down a weight class to fight a guy in a lower weight class then that just answer me this. what pare of that makes sense? and he lost to shogun the second time he lost to rampage fair and square. and rashad beat jones in a round and didn’t get finished.

  4. magoo says:

Damn seems everyone wants a piece of the ppv king. Can’t blame them for that! I’m sure if you dropped to 185 and asked for Anderson your chances would be pretty good.

  5. Ripshot de la Culebra says:

Lyoto would own 185. I don’t think GSP would ever make the move officially up in weight to 185.

  6. saiasaka says:

LMFAO; and why not JDS against GSP; Dude GSP is 5ft10 why don’t you go challenge people at YOUR weigh class !

    • ShotokanJJ says:

Lyoto is much smaller than anderson, would be a great fight for GSP to debut in MiddleWeight. Lyoto is a small Lhw. Oh and he didnt challenge GSP, they asked him about it, cause there both Karate black belts, in diffrent types though..

  7. learntoread says:

If Machida is going to go down to 185, they should put him up against either Bisping or Weidman.

  8. sidekix says:

You guys are dumb, these are martial artists if they want to test different weight classes you as fans should embrace it. That’s how true pound for pound greats are made guys like bj Penn and Anderson who have fought guys across 3 or more weight classes and do very well.

  9. Dee says:

GSP doesn’t even want to fight Anderson right now let alone Machida. Machida should fight Hendo next.

  10. Drew says:

Ya machida u give a shot with homes to call out Gsp for a 185 match lol keep drinkn piss dude

  11. ya herd says:

GSP only fights when he knows hes got the advantage!! Hes 5ft 10 and has a reach of 75 inches with alot of mucel hes 1 of the biggest welterweights ever but yet he wont challenge himself by stepping up instead he crys like a baby saying he needs to put on more weight if your ment to be 1 of the best fighters ever go up and prove yourself until then you wont be on my pound for pound list.. i have silva, jones, jds, jose aldo, dan henderson

    • You stupid hypocryte says:

For real bro? That is the biggest hypocryte bullshit i’ve ever heard. Your saying GSP isn’t on your pound 4 pound list cuz he’s an oversized welterweight and wont move up? But you have Jones on your P4P when he’s taller and got more reach then anyone at LHW? Hypocryte ass motherfucker. Personally i don’t give a fuck, i don’t care if Jones or GSP decide not to move up cuz that’s there choice and there’s nothing wrong with it. But you just pulled some bullshit right there faggot.

    • Must be why he’s fought every title contender then huh. Nice made up story.

  12. peepee says:

the most retarded call out i have ever heard. machida used to fight heavyweight and has been lhw for many years now. but yeah call out the champ 2 weight classes below you….. that should get him some anderson money ;)

  13. James says:

Why are we talking GSP. He great and all, but we need to get Silva Vs Jones. Unless anyone thinks Silva will lose to Bonner????

  14. Sasquatch says:

Bad match up for GSP… I like his chances against Silva way more.

  15. Bill Ding says:

I usually side with Dana but he is 100% wrong, the guys who actually fight at 205 and already have fought him and lost want more than a month to train to fight him again, Imagine Machida or Shogun take the fight on a months notice while Jones has been training for 3 months for a fight isn’t exactly fair. If they lose again to him they won’t get another shot for quite some time so Dana you are 100% wrong. Belfort stepped up because he had nothing to lose fighting jones he doesn’t fight at 205 so he wasnt a contender there so plain and Simple Dana get of there nuts you want them to jepordazize a shot at the belt so you can makea fight your champ ducked out of. Weak

  17. Uh huh says:

Rather see lyoto vs nick Diaz

  18. “Get rid of fitch forever” is the biggest excuse making liar I have ever seen when it comes to popular fighters in mma. Pathetic.

  19. “Get Rid Of Fitch (forever)” is a pathological liar when it comes to popular mma fighters. Worst debater on the planet.
