Lyoto Machida Says UFC Demanded Rematch for Anderson Silva

UFC 163 fighter and former UFC champion Lyoto Machida knows a little something about title rematches as his consecutive bouts with Mauricio Rua started a streaky run for ‘The Dragon’.

Now Machida weighs in on a situation concerning his friend and former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva.

In an interview with O Globo, Machida covered several topics including Silva’s current predicament:

“Anderson’s rematch is fair; the guy rule division for long time. He maybe didn’t really want to fight for the belt again but the UFC demanded it. I believe it wasn’t only Anderson’s intentions that prevailed in this situation.”

Machida also touched base on the status of his own title hopes with a match against Phil Davis at UFC 163 looming in his near future:

“I am the number one in the world and the leading contender, and it is in this upcoming fight that I will demonstrate that once again. I already received the promise for the title shot twice and ended up not having the chance to fight for it but I will prove myself for the third time,”

Since Machida’s previous title shot against current champion Jon Jones at UFC 140, Machida has gone unbeaten, vanquishing Ryan Bader by knockout and most recently out-classing Dan Henderson most UFC 157. Now Machida hopes to climb the ranks and get a title shot that he believes is owed to him with his continued success starting with a win over Davis:

“Nothing comes easy for me and I am not counting with anything easy now. I know this is going to be a tough fight but the title shot has to come.”

As for waiting for a title shot, Machida will remain patient and when the time comes, prepare to retake his belt from the victor of an October title fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson:

“It used to bother me a lot, waiting for title contentions that didn’t happen. Today I don’t think this way. What is happening is good for me. It’s a fight in Brazil, a fight that will do so much for my career. I am so happy with the opportunity, very pleased and looking to live each moment.

“I don’t like to keep complaining about what hasn’t happened. If it did not work out that moment, there must have been a reason for that. I did my part, I fought, won, did everything that was demanded. Such is life – not everything will happen the way we want.”

Its one step at a time for Machida though as he faces off against Phil Davis in the co-main event slot of UFC 163 this Saturday in his home country of Brazil. The event will take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Let’s just hope Davis, Wonderbar’s this guy so he can just shut up. Jones doesn’t want to fight this boring sack of potatoes. GO US, ALL DAY, AND EVERYDAY!!! Who actually wants to see boring Machida vs Jones 2??? crickets….

    • you sir,are a moron says:

Shouldn’t be up to queen Jones to choose.champs shouldn’t get to pick and choose fights, they should fight whomever is put in front of them. It shouldn’t matter if they are the best right?

    • Jenuel says:

You must be completely brain dead or retarded if you think Machida’s a boring fighter. You just sound like a racist redneck with all this “GO US” shit. Maybe you should focus more on the fighters SKILLS instead of where they’re from.

      • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

So when someone supports their country over other countries then they are, in your words: “racist rednecks”? So using your logic then when Brazilians only support Brazilian fighters they are: “racist rednecks”? Is that your point dick pimple? You are stoooopid. Are you a USAian or an American hating communist? Your skills suck…dick pimple..

    • Zach D says:

Haha, Davis will need a “wonder bra”, after The Dragon makes him cry like a lil girl! Not every fighter is “exciting”! Maybe you should actually watch the technique involved before you put down a HIGHLY skilled fighter!

      • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

His skills of avoiding a fight is exactly what makes him boring and not worth watching. That is his technique, avoiding a fight. Herky jerky back up BS and then try and counter. Davis will pressure him dump him on his head gnp and then rip his arm off. I’d love to see Phil choke him unconscious too. Don’t confuse a shitty techniques somewhat effectiveness with high levels of skill. It’s not the same.

        • Patrick Jenkins says:

Firstly lay and gay that your such fan of is the most common form of avoiding a fight in MMA. As to Lyoto having shitty technique let me just put it this way former UFC light heavy weight champion. He is such a boring fighter that he put Evans to sleep (with his hands) no chokes. Actually throw hands with someone then tell me it’s boring to not get hit. That’s why Lyoto has a long decorated career and you have an Internet handle you choose to ride behind your keyboard.

    @Gargoyle Wrestling
Your negative comments about every single article are boring. Just admmit it, you’re a boring shit talker. Mad bruh? Come at me bruh! – Oni

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

No I’m not mad. I accept your opinion. It’s your right. I don’t agree with you, but I do accept it. Too bad you can’t…..That makes me superior to you!!!

  3. GRT 3000 says:

of course – the UFC knows that Weidman is a fluke champ. The GOAT beat himself plain & simple.

  4. Shooter McGurk says:

I am not really a Jones fan, but these tough guys who are calling him a queen or whatever on their computers…I think maybe they should call him out directly. I would PPV just to watch these toughies pee themselves at the weigh in.

  5. The Clinch says:

Jones is at Jackson’s 1pm-7pm, I’m sure he would spar anyone willing to sign the medical waiver. And when you put someone in check do it intelligently, because when you act ignorant you will get treated that way.

  6. Dddddddd says:

Lyotos a beast. He could snatch a fruit fly out of the air with funken toothpicks. I think he’ll blitz on Phil and land a rediculously accurate straight punch. I feel a little guilty for not backin the American wrestler but Phil to me is the boring fighter to watch. Lyoto might win by unanimous decision but I think it’ll be a tko.
