Lyoto Machida eyes ‘big fight’ against Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen or Nick Diaz next

Ready to get back into the octagon and erase the memory of his loss to Phil Davis at UFC 163, Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida has created a list of desirable opponents, and he doesn’t care if he has to drop down to middleweight to get the “big” fight he desires.

The few high-profile names that the former UFC light heavyweight champion has in mind are as follows: Vitor Belfort, Nick Diaz or Chael Sonnen.

As far as “The Dragon” is concerned, he doesn’t care which of those three he takes on next … he just wants to scrap!

His words via “The MMA Hour”:

“I just want to do a big fight, you know? Belfort is the first name on a list because he is a big name and a great opponent. I think Belfort is a perfect opponent for me. But, he hasn’t accepted that fight. Then, Dana White told me about Nick Diaz. Nick Diaz is a great opponent, too, but I’m just waiting for UFC. Then, last Saturday, I saw the fight with Shogun and Sonnen and saw a great opportunity to fight Sonnen, too. Sonnen is a great name, a big name around the world and I think I can beat him. And he talk bad about me back in the day.”

Who would you like to see Machida fight next? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!

Lyoto two of those three guys are on their way up and not down so they do not benefit from fighting you. The other guy(Diaz) is a fan favorite because of his fighting style. Fighting you makes no sense for any of them because you are on the way down lately….Work your way back up you have become boring

  2. Gargoyle Wrestling says:

I don’t blame Machida for trying to get a fight that draws more PPV’s then he can. He’s pretty much irrelevant at 205 right now, might as well make some money. This guy is one loss away from being cut.

  3. SwaggyJ says:

Not interested in seeing him fight anyone. No offense Machida, just not a fan of your style, or lack of.

  4. Bob'O says:

The comments from the 3 of you thus far show how ignorant of the sport of MMA that you are. Machida beat Davis, he was robbed. Machida is a true Martial Artist.

Swaggyj, In the grand scheme of things in regards to the Mixed Martial Arts world, nobody gives a fuck what you think about Lyoto, certainly not him. So go back to flipping burgers at Jack in the box.

757, Machida is on his way down, oh really? Even Dana said he got robbed in the Davis fight. No dumb shit, he just needs to beat a big name and he’s right back in it. Fix your melon brah.

Gargoyle, I am going to go easy on you, cause I like yuh, but Machida is still relevant, and he could lose 2 more fights and still would be in the UFC because he can usually finish people. Look what he did to Evans and Couture? Remedy your position on the subject of Machida bro. ~Bob’O

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Thanks Bob’O, I’ll yield on this one. I was letting my bias and dislike for his style speak and NOT reality. As much as I dislike his backing up style, he does have a very unique style that perhaps he can only do that is effective. He did beat Evans as a champ but come on now, Couture was 49 years old when they fought and he WAS NOT the same as he was in his 30’s. But yah, you are right, other than what Jones did to him he is barely winning or losing so until somebody beats him up bad a few times, he is here to stay.

      • Ddddddddd says:

Machida and Vitor would be a sweet fight. That’s a great match and stylistically it would create a lot of action.
I think it’s a pretty brave call out for Machida considering Vitor is a fast guy to try to counter. Someone would get kod or maybe even submitted.

      • Bob'O says:

Yeah bro, I agree about Couture, it’s just that I am a big Machida fan cause I like Karate, and I want to see more of it in The UFC, and MMA In general. Thanks for being reasonable, I can be a dick sometimes, but it’s never personal. ~Bob’O

        • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

I hear you brother, I’m the last one to call out prickness..lol Never personal with me either. I don’t mind the slap down from you. That’s cool you were right about Machida. He is unique. You should be liking McGregor with that aggressive karate.

  5. 757 says:

Bob o I have adopted a new approach. I don’t fuck with people. Once I get some fucko like you fucking with me the I will slam you. Bob nob. Machida lost against Davis…I don’t fuck what you think happened at the end of the day check the scoreboard that’s all that counts. Boring motherfucker. None of those guys get anything beneficial out of fighting him. Vitor is winning big, Chael has redeemed himself with an awesome win, and Diaz is a favorite because of his style. Grow up dickhead it’s a business. You have a short time to make money at it. You make more for fighting guys who are on a hot streak and have value….sorry Machida doesn’t have either right now. Stick that martial artist shit up your ass along with your opinions and probably every dick you can find. It’s about the money stupid ass

    • Bob'O says:

Is your pussy aching now 757? You can’t handle a little trash talk? I need to grow up while you talk about dicks cause that seems like all you prefer to bounce on? Shut the fuck up bro, Diaz vs Machida would be a great fight because of their stand up. You act like you’re the one all be all MMA match up decider, well brah you’re not, you’re just another opinion, which is like an asshole, everyone has one. Don’t be such a crybaby, I am not taking it personal. Maybe next time you and I will agree. Must be quite a place, that space between your fucking ears? ;) ~Bob’O

      • 757 says:

Your a joke Bob O . I never said I was mad. I said you are a fucking idiot. Big difference dummy. Stop sending winky faces also you faggot….Bob Knob ha ha what a tool

  6. jon says:

Id love 2 watch Nick Diaz beat up on Machida

  7. AsianInvasionz says:

Machida is NOT on his way out. People who don’t know MMA are always the first to judge. Machida isn’t “boring”, he just possesses a style that you fail to understand due to lack of knowledge. A big fight will help get rid of that wrongful loss to Davis.
